March In God

Fell asleep Mrs. Ursula

Née Schreiber, beloved wife

Of a furrier and soap maker Balthasar

Preiβ, at the age of 30.

Then on 3rd November, Constance,

Her much loved daughter, [died] at age of 40 weeks.

They are waiting here for their joyful resurrection

And arrival of Christ.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Epistle to the Romans 8

Text of the inscription is carved in majuscule with concave letters.

Location:

Outside the southern aisle of the church, to the east from the wall of the chapel, near the boiler room entrance. Rectangular sandstone plaque, currently mounted in the church wall with cement and metal hooks. It depicts a standing woman in a dress and a bonnet; in joined hands she holds a prayer book; next to her stands a little child; the inscription circles the figure. Above the plaque is a triangular finial, a coat of arms depicting a bird turned right on top of it; beneath it a house mark of Balthasar Preiß, flanked with letters B and P; below is the main text with information about the deceased.

The Preiß family belonged to Jelenia Góra’s bourgeoisie from 17th century. Their members were master craftsmen in furriery and soap manufacturing.
